can't decide what weapon I want to carry.
Goals:
Very economical to shoot as I'm poor Large hands. Most gloves I wear an Xlarge Concealable, easy to maintain, longevity.
These goals have aligned me with considerations of the revolver type handgun. Originally was looking at snub .38's but have since moved towards .357 as it opens up more options in ammuntion/stopping power. 5 Shot revolver also helps with the ammunition costs simply due to not being as able to rapidly blast through boxes of ammunition. Leaning towards a stainless steel model as I'm looking for longevity which the steel offers along with the fact that I'm a big "humid" guy that can use all the rust proofing I can get. Leaning towards hammerless design for ease of draw as well as one less place for dirt/lint/debris to enter.
Thoughts, idea's, and innuendo..
PS: you're welcome twist

PS: you're welcome twist I keep a snub nose 5-shot .357 in my Jeep. It was cheap; so if it gets confiscated by the po-po, no big loss. And of course, being a .357, it has good stopping power.

DK, why? Titanfall?
Poodle, don't you live in Canada? Aren't handguns illegal up there? If so confiscation would be the least of your worries
Erie, the snub nose revolver would be a good concealable gun but even better would be something like the Ruger LC9. ruger.com/products/lc9/models.html The typical snub revolver is 6.5" to 6.75" long and 1 3/8" wide, the LC9 is 6" long and .9" wide. Its simply easier to hide/carry and holds 7 rounds, one more than the revolver. Plus the 9mm is cheaper to shoot than the .38 special and way cheaper than .357 mag. As far as ware and tear on the finish the LC9 is a glass-filled nylon lower and blued upper that will wear off but so what. Anything you carry will get beat up, a stainless gun will look like crap after a few years of carry (scratched up). With the selling prices of the LC9 in the $350 area it will be cheaper than a revolver as well.
Another good choice in the $300 area. Its almost 1" shorter than a snub nose revolver and more than 3/8" slimmer. www.keltecweapons.com/our-guns/pf-9/pistol/
There are cheaper options but why carry something you cant trust. The Keltec has a good rep and is pretty cheap. Also as far as stopping power goes the 9mm has more than the .38 special, not as much as the .357 but consider the size of these guns. Don't know if you've ever shot a snub in .357 but I can tell ya its not fun. Modern hollow point 9mm rounds are more than capable of taking down the biggest mean'ee.

DK.. RPG's are on backorder.. damnit!
The keltec looks rather affordable at that. I have shot a snub in .357 and in all honesty on the 9th round it peeled a bit of skin about the size of a dime off of my palm. As I shot it I kept saying that "it's not that bad" but you can rest assured it's not something I would ever blow through 50 rounds with... I'd say 20 would be max.
I do need to look into ammunition pricing. I know I have access to 9mm die's for reloading as well and in 9mm I'm pretty sure my Dad has more brass than he knows what to do with.
I also have access to a LC9. It seemed a bit small in my hand and felt rather "snappy" due to it's small size. I'll have to look around and see if I can't find a kel-tec to put in my hands and get a feel for it.
Prices look good though and appreciate the input with links. More to consider as my job applications simmer in the hand of hopeful HR managers.
WOW... I never paid much attention to prices of 9mm ammo. VERY much cheaper to shoot. That about clinches me into that caliber as regardless of the weapon I choose practice will be a main focus as I'm purchasing this weapon due to my neighborhoods rapid decline. They just smash N grabbed from the pharmacy 2 blocks down so I can expect dozens of semi lucid zombies to be walking the streets for the next week or so. Then as the withdrawal kicks in "it'll be on"

Sorry for the "insult" Poodle I thought you were from the north though CA isn't much better Yea Erie silly season is about to start (summer in the city) so nows the time. Even if you went with a compact size auto it would still have a advantage in width over a wheel gun and would end up about the same length. Something like a Ruger P85 would have a bigger grip but still be easy to hide as well as not break the bank - $350 to $375 range. Keltec has some nice options in this area as well. I've actually been thinking about a "pocket" gun for myself because my full size SIG is kinda hard to hide in the summer. That LC9 is on my short list.

I live in the OC. I should get off my lazy ass and apply, but lately, I been preoccupied with so much other stuff. I would also need to get another gun for CCW, too. My .357 is fine for my Jeep, but I wouldn't want to carry it. A .380 would be ideal for me.

If you're insistent on bigger is better, may as well step up to .45
Consider this one:

LOL I was just giving ya a hard time Note that my daily carry gun is a SIG P220 .45 One of the instructors at a tactical handgun course I was attending had the best answer ever for the question of what caliber to chose, he said pick the biggest one you can handle and be effective with.

If you're insistent on bigger is better, may as well step up to .45 Consider this one: That guy shoots my sub compact .40 cal. glock like a pro. Which, by the way is a great gun. Super compact and packs a punch. Glocks have been dropped out of choppers, dunked in mud, sand, or whatever and always fire. The sub compact 40 can be a little hard to control because of the small handle and large kick, but you could purchase a magazine with an extra pinkie grip. here's info on the .40 and the 9mm

Mega a very good friend of mine is a cop and his back-up gun is a G27 so I've had the chance to shoot it, hard to hold best describes it for me, lol. I have big hands and could only hold it with 2 1/2 fingers, not fun at all to shoot like that lol. I was however very impressed with the accuracy though. I shot 7 rounds at 15 yards and every round was touching . . . freehand! Nice!
