Well My Friends,
As many of you know I've been crying the blue's about this snowy city of doom and despair that I live in. The stories of throwing people off my porch, answering the door with a german shepherd and a 9mm, and all sorts of hoodlumery....
I've been offered a job in Charlotte NC as of Friday Jan 23rd. The job starts by 2/16 at the latest. I've lived in my home since 1993 and it's full. I'm leaving the furnace and power on, shutting everthing else down and grabbing what I can carry and leaving the rest in the house till I can sort it out later. I've made so many changes in the last two years that this one has been a long time coming. I can't believe that I have no prep time and will have to support two homes for quite a few months but when opportunity knocks and it's going to knock you out of somewhere you truly dislike.. Here I go!
Even as I write this I'm in disbelief at the leap of faith I'm making to pull this off. It's inconceivable to be able to make this happen but I must do it for me and my girl. I've had my girl in Charlotte for 7 weeks and she was just back in Erie for the last week. She has left this morning at 6am and I've already retained a realtor and have appointments for four homes to be viewed on Monday. I've emailed the realtor another 14 that are considerations depending on pet friendly status. BTW, my german shepherd has become a "lab mix" to slightly remove the label of "attack dog". I did put down my female dog a few months ago and she was the true protection dog that would kill without hesitation. My current male is a furball of love and mush in a giant warhorse body.
Wish me luck and know that I'm not going anywhere, just going to jump outside the comfort zone for a little while while I learn a new industry and attempt to excel at it with all my OCD powers. I'll be running a large plumbing supply chain's warehouse with a half dozen employee's under me. I'll be working M-F 7am to 6pm and on call 24/7 including weekends.
I'm looking at homes in the southern region of Charlotte and depending what I find when we look I'm considering Gastonia NC as well. My work is closest to the Pineville area for any of you familiar with the region.
Here's to making big moves with little time... I need an ammo man in front and a medic at my back cause I'm goin in!!!!

Good luck Erie! Charlotte is a nice part of the country from what little bit I've seen. A bit moist at times but overall a good place to be.
(As a side note, the Charlotte, NC airport identifier is CLT so, you know, be gentle with it when you go there.)

I lived in goldsboro nc for several months several years ago, but i visited lot of big cities while i was there, I liked it ok the lifestyle was definetely different than i was used to in chicago but it was pleasant enough, it comes down to if you prefer the slower pace then the hustle and bustle. Good lock to you.

Charlotte NC.. moist CLT.. .. it just gets better and better.
thanks guys
The homes I'm looking at are in Monroe NC which is what most call the "rural" part. I'm hoping for a large fenced yard, garage, and a nice garden that can grow better part of the year.

good tip born. The water will be shut off when I leave and I'll crack the valves and drain my hot water tank as well. The heat will be set around 45-50 with a new furnace filter installed. I'll have family stopping by each week to check the house, get any mail not forwarded, and work on the home to make it have more curb appeal. paid my homeowners insurance for the year so that's off my plate. I'll only have electric and gas on in the house so the furnace works and a few lights on timers.
I've got quite a bit packed up already and my living room is getting piled high with boxes. I'll be making a call to twister soon to see if he wants to ride over Saturday morning to fill up my truck and trailer. hint hint... it will be an 8am start time and done before noon as I'll be looking to start my first trip Saturday by noon with an arrival time at my new home by 9pm. I'll be making the trip back on Sunday and take monday as a doctor day to use up my current medical insurance, dental, and eye. Then I hope to make another bigger trip on Tuesday with my truck and trailer and my dad's truck and trailer.
So many plans and so little time.
I am excited to show you guys my new place though. I'm uprgrading 100 times. Big yard, big 20x20 shed, 2 car garage, awesome neighborhood.

to heck with this snow forsaken tundra. I spent the entire day yesterday packing boxes. I knew it was snowind decently as I had to take 3 breaks to work the dog and tire him out due to all the confusion in teh house. I wake up very early this morning and have that feeling of using a few muscles and think to myself, self, that wasn't a bad days work. I go outside to throw the ball a bit for the dog before heading out to my last monday at my current job.. WTF.. 2 feet of snow. The dog is leaping like a gazelle and I'm like oh shit, I've got to shovel dang near the whole driveway.
I parked all the way down the driveway so the people helping me pack would have a parking spot. mind you there was limited to no snow at that time. they left yesterday around 3pm and from that time till now snow has been drifting behind each tire for about 60 feet of length. Now I do have four wheel drive but with that much snow I also have the chance of sliding sideways just a little bit.. that would put me into my house or my neighbors house. with that said I've had nearly 2 heart attacks trying to shovel for the last hour. WTH!
about 5pm I was on the phone with my girl talking about our new home and things and I heard a lawnmower in the background.. they are freakin mowing the lawn already. It's going to be one long week

Don't forget to pick up some flip flops, shorts, and sunglasses. Maybe a hat and some sunscreen. Oh, and lawnmower. Any plans for an RC track in your new back yard?

goldensnowglobe.com/current-top-10-snowiest-cities/^^^^ God Forsaken snow filled blah de da blah blah blah town..... My final gift from this town will be to try and haul a trailer down my street, get it parked enough that even one car can go by, and then with twister and friends help not die while trying to haul stuff out of my house through massive snow piles and ice.

Big thanks to Twister for his help in loading my first run to charlotte. Left for NC at 11:30 am on Saturday. Unloaded trailer, slept, woke up, went to lowes to repair damage to trailer (another days story), then drove home. 35 hours 1200 miles.
Packing more stuff today. Loading trailer today. Leaving again tomorrow.

You may want to check that trailer before you make your way back to Charlotte, as Twister may be hiding in it

2nd trailer is loaded down. called and disconnected my DSL service to my erie home so I'm out with internet for a short time. still have phone service internet but really don't like posting via phone.
I'll be picking up time warner cable and apparently I need to buy a cable modem for them. They have a list of approved modems and if anyone has any "DONT BUY THIS ONE" I'm looking for information.

checked my new home town's weather forecast. Saw something I've never seen written in all my years in Erie.
Forecast calls for "abundant sunshine"

Just as long as it doesn't say "abundant MrSunshine". ... What, too soon?
